• I don't think that is correct. I just played with that on my Illustrator (CS6) and changing the orientation simply stacks the letters. If I type "Hello" then change the orientation to Vertical, I get this H e l l o That's not the same as the OP's type. I think somehow the text block is automatically rotating 90°. Weird.
