• The SPSS result of the polynomial contrast for story*AffCoh is F(1, 111) = .99, p=.322. Can someone help me in getting a mixed ANOVA with type III Sums of Squares and a polynomial contrast?

• For each contrast, the coefficients must be entered individually, and in order. Once can also enter multiple contrasts, by using the [Next] present in the dialog box. The result for the example contrast would look like the following, Further, one can use the Polynomial option to test whether a specific trend in the data exists.
• SPSS and SAS programs for comparing Pearson correlations and OLS regression coefficients. PubMed. Weaver, Bruce; Wuensch, Karl L. 2013-09-01. Several procedures that use summary data to test hypotheses about Pearson correlations and ordinary least squares regression coefficients have been described in various books and articles.
I tried doing a polynomial contrast in the GLM procedure of SPSS 7.5. This gave me a k-matrix which I could not make much sense of and did not give an ANOVA table with the linear and quadratic components broken down in one degree of freedom each with accompanying F value. Does anyone have some suggestions? Thanks in advance,--Marcos

SPSS (with this option) produces Levene's test with slightly different statistics to R with the syntax shown above; this is because SPSS defaults to the "mean-centred" version of Levene's test, while R (car and ezANOVA packages alike) defaults to the "median-centred" version, which is (a) usually more robust, and (b) strictly called the Brown ... I want to transform the time variable to orthogonal polynomial variables. Can you share more on how to run the contrasts for time in SPSS (particularly the piece about orthopolynomial transformation)?
Historically, when designed experiments involved quantitative factor levels, polynomial trends in the response were evaluated by using orthogonal polynomial contrast coding. These coefficients were used to partition the SS for the Factor into linear, quadratic, cubic, etc. contributions.

In contrast, the aortic line of elasticity did not alter in any patient after enalaprilat administration (Figure 4). The aortic loop slid downward along the same sigmoid line. Furthermore, no polynomial parameter showed significant changes during the time that P dif was significantly increased (Table 4).
